As the Learning Support Unit Manager in a large comprehensive secondary school in London. Athy became more and more convinced that it was pointless to try to catch up on missed work until the pupils learnt how to believe in themselves and has stronger self-esteem. This programme consists of a series of twelve stages, which helps pupils come to a point where they can begin to believe in themselves again. It emphasises positive thinking and the power of relationships as critical success factors. Pupils come to identify their dream achievements and learn how they come to see themselves as successful learners. This programme is a must before tackling any learning tasks and has made a positive impact on exclusion rates where it has been used as part the Personal Support Plan.
